Movies based on the USA or more like stories of militaries in service and how they work for our country are usually loved by everyone even when the movie could be, maybe, a four out of ten.
When it comes to 2014’s American Sniper, this one is an exception since it is a movie that stirred up controversy from the start. Some say it was too dumb, while others say it was way too good to be missed or deprive yourself of watching it.
The truth is that the movie and the reviews or rates you will see and read reflect how it was: too good to be true for some (apparently).
But to judge it and give reasons that can support an argument, you must have watched it first.

What Inspired the Movie?
Many believe that American Sniper is a movie that came out of nowhere in terms of writing and creating it, but instead, it is inspired by a true story.
But before jumping there, this true story was first told through an autobiography of who will be our main character either in this work or the movie: Chris Kyle.
However, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice also wrote the memoir along with Kyle.
Going back to the latter, he was a United States Navy SEAL born on April 8, 1974, in Texas, and died on February 2, 2013.
He served four tours in the Iraq War and was awarded for acts of heroism and meritorious service in combat. It is essential to mention that Kyle was a sniper, and due to all his feats during the war, he is considered the best Sniper in USA history so far.
Now, this takes us back to the autobiography, which clearly follows and tells the story of Kyle, starting with some of his early years and then covering his Navy SEAL training to move on with the combat experiences in Iraq.
Considering that he went on four tours to this war, it is crucial to focus on the book’s primary setting: his role in the battle for control of Ramadi.
From this autobiography, we have a movie that is considered one of the best biographical war drama films so far and really touches the heart of all Americans and even those that weren’t born nor live in the country.
The movie is very loyal to Kyle’s autobiography to the point of not needing even to read it (although we recommend you do it if you are keen on the idea).
The last thing to mention about what inspired the movie is that it isn’t about his journey in the war but also how this affected his family and their entire relationship.
He became a great sniper, and this is something you will get to know even before watching or not the movie, but there was a cost that implicitly shows in his family.
Therefore, in this man’s life, we have a soldier who served four tours in Iraq and became the most lethal sniper in United States history with 160 confirmed kills, but at what cost to his family?
Great Production for A Great Movie
The movie was directed by no other than Clint Eastwood, while the producers involved were Robert Lorenz, Andrew Lazar, Bradley Cooper, and Peter Morgan.
Production companies like Village Roadshow Pictures, RatPac-Dune Entertainment, and the other three were involved in it while the distribution was in charge of Warner Bros. Pictures.
After Kylie releasing the memoir in January 2012, Warner Bros. acquired the rights in May of the same year to produce the movie with Bradley Cooper as part of the producers already and the star in it.
In fact, Cooper wasn’t going to play the role in the beginning. However, Warner Bros. was adamant about this decision since the company only bought the rights if the first would accept to act as the star.
Next to him, we have Sienna Miller playing the role of Taya Kyle (Chris Kyle’s wife).
Other actors like Kyle Gallner, Cory Hardrict, and Luke Grimes were also included in the movie (and we’re still missing a few or more like many).
There was considerable pressure put on the producers and people involved in the movie for the story they were adapting and Kyle’s murder on February 2, 2013.
This means that, indeed, he was unable to see how the movie unfolded and the cast, along with the rest of the production, wanted to deliver all the feelings he and the other two men conveyed in the memoir and as a way to remember him forever.
How Popular Was the Movie?
Despite the controversy we mentioned at the beginning of the movie, we also said that it was too good to be missed.
We still stand with this point since we consider the movie to be a breaking point for many in terms of emotional break.
We loved it, and we’re happy it was as popular as it deserved during its release and to this date.
That being said, American Sniper grossed $350.1 million in North America and $197 million in other countries. This gives a total of $547.1 million and considering that its budget was $58 million, you can say it was worth the effort put into it when it is about financial results.
This reception made it rank as the highest-grossing war film of all time (worldwide).
In the USA, it was actually the highest-grossing film in 2014, considering it is an R-rated film as well.
If you decide to compare it to other films, it is pretty much impossible since we have to stick to the genre and the movie’s budget.
But now that we’re here what about the actors and cast overall?
There aren’t reports of how much each one of them was paid for the movie considering that American Sniper was a tribute to Kyle’s death in the end.
Therefore, we won’t find specific salaries or net worth based on it. However, our start, Bradley Cooper, earned $17+ million for it, though this is yet to be confirmed, and we doubt this will ever happen.

- The movie isn’t only very accurate to the book but also Kyle’s real life. This could sound obvious, but directors and producers did their best to keep the incidents and life of the war hero as intact as possible. Some details were indeed changed, but the story follows most of the time accordingly.
- It portrays how Kyle’s life ended when Eddie Ray Routh shot him at the Rough Creek Ranch-Lodge-Resort shooting range.
- Chris Pratt was the actor Cooper had in mind for the role of Kyle before Warner Bros. insisted on the latter being the star.
