There are dozens of R&B and female singers earning millions, but very few are close to Beyonce’s net worth and, of course, her talent.
We doubt this amazing woman needs any introduction, and if she does, where have you been living all this type?
Beyonce is like “mama” when it comes to voice, moves, and presence. Thus, we are confident you have at least listened and watched her once. It is okay if you aren’t a fan, though.
However, have you seen that meme mentioning why people go to hell instead of heaven? One of them went down there just because she didn’t like her. Don’t worry, we are not this extreme, but it is true we are fans and cannot understand quite well how people wouldn’t like her.
But enough of fangirling, let’s focus on the matter a hand: How much she earns.
Being a superstar worldwide would expect the famous singer to have amassed a great fortune, and you are not far from reality.
Beyonce is one of the highest-paid artists in the world (as heads-up), so you can expect quite interesting details in this post + details of her life you will find sick.
A Star Was Born: Beyonce’s Childhood & Early Years
Where should we start? This is the same question we ask ourselves every single time, but for very good reasons: There’s too much to cover.
Beyonce Giselle Knowles was conceived in Houston, Texas, on September 4, 1981, born to Celestine “Tina” Knowles and Mathew Knowles, a hairdresser and sales manager, respectively. She began singing early and competed in talent shows at a young age.
Does this mean she showed a great interest in this industry? You bet!
But focusing on her family for a bit, Beyoncé (actually with the accent) is a descendant of Jean-Vincent d’Abbadie de Saint-Castin, who was a French military officer service in Acadia,
Another Acadian leader named Joseph Broussard is also part of her ancestor, thanks to her mother. Her family from this site is quite the talented one, with her fourth great-grandmother being Marie-Francoise Trahan as well.
But enough of history in terms of the family (which keeps going for a while). Beyonce is known for being raised as Catholic and was enrolled at St. Mary’s Montessori School in Houston.
When attending, she decided to take dance classes and discovered her signing talent thanks to one of her instructors, Darlette Johnson, who was singing a song. Beyonce finished it with the highest notes possible.
After winning several music awards and performing events, she was even more encouraged to take part with her voice and talent, and her love for music just continued growing.
Following this education face, she enrolled in Parker Elementary School in 1990, which was a music magnet school in Houston where she took part in the school’s choir.
Then, she attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts to move to Alief Elsik High School later.
Her decisions for education were mostly based on her love for it and to exploit her talent.
Taking a few steps back to her childhood in specific, Beyonce met Kelly Rowland, her childhood friend, when she was eight years old.
But going back to teenager dreams, her friend and Beyonce performed a song and rapped on a talent show in Houston. Arne Frager, an R&B producer, brought the girls to his studio in Northern California and put them in Star Search.
Star Search was the most popular talent show on television at the time, which they joined as “Girl’s Tyme” with another three girls who didn’t win, and Beyonce later stated that the song they performed was poor.
However, the band’s talent was evident to the point of Beyonce’s father quitting his job and deciding to take on the task of managing the group in 1995. This would be a bold move considering how their family felt in the financial aspect.
Mathew cut the original group formed by the TV show into four, and several contracts for R&B performances were possible.
However, the group’s early years were hard, and her parents decided to separate after the finances were just declining after her father’s decision.
Despite this, Dwayne Wiggins signed the group on October 5, 1995, and the girls recorded their debut album in 1996 under an agreement with Sony Music.
The Knowles family reunited, and the group was soon signed with Columbia Records.
Path to Success: Destiny Child & Solo Career
After signing up with Columbia Records, the group changed its name to quite the popular group, Destiny’s Child.
Before we continue, let’s make a short recap about this.
The original group was formed during the participation of Beyonce and her best friend, Kelly Rowland, in the TV show contest. However, the initial line-up for Destiny’s Child is actually only those two + the other two members.
And again, Matthew Knowles, her father, was the band’s manager.
With the contract with Columbia Records and the debut album almost ready, the release of their self-titled first debut album, “Destiny’s Child” quickly became one of R&B’s most loved acts.
The group gained momentum and reached the top of many charts. Their second album included the hits “Bills, Bills, Bills,” which was their first number 1. Another smash hit was also included in the recording, “Say My Name.”
The groups’ success was inevitable with how people loved the music and the women’s personality, which clearly said, “We’re here, and we’re killing it.”
However, Beyonce started exploring other opportunities while enjoying the success of her group.
In 2001, she made her acting debut with a leading role in “Carmen – A Hip Hopera.” The following year, she starred alongside Mike Myers as the Austin Powers spy humor “Goldmember.”
In 2003, Knowles was working partially as a solo artist, and Beyonce released her first solo album, “Dangerously in Love.” It was a commercial and critical success.
It was selling millions of copies and went on to win five Grammy Awards. Knowles collaborated with many artists on the album, including Missy Elliott and Sean Paul.
During this time, she was associated with Jay-Z, and they were rumored to be dating, but this wasn’t acknowledged at the time.
In 2004, Destiny’s Child released their final studio album, “Destiny Fulfilled.” The group was officially disbanded the next year, and the final and most popular line-up didn’t include the four members but rather Beyonce, Michelle Williams, and Kelly Rowland only.
When leaving the group, our now superstar enjoyed great success on her own. The second solo album, “B’Day” (2006), featured hits like “Irreplaceable” as well as “Deja Vu.” She also starred in a film with Jennifer Hudson and Jaime Foxx to continue exploring her acting career.
More Grammy Award nominations came her way, and we are just getting started with them.
A Peek to Her Personal Life & Success
After denying many rumors and not admitting her relationship in public, Jay-Z, a music mogul, and rapper, married Knowles in a private ceremony in New York City in 2008.
Knowles’ mother Tina and her father Mathew were among the guests at the wedding. Knowles’ sister Solange, Rowland, and Michelle Williams, Destiny’s Child members, and friend Gwyneth Paltrow were also present.
Jay-Z actually plays an influential role in her career and allows Beyonce to promote her albums with his help (in terms of business).
The newlywed worked as hard as ever to promote her new album “I am… Sasha Fierce” (2008).
Two of the biggest hits from the album were “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” and “If I Were a Boy.” In Cadillac Records, she starred as R&B legend Etta Jam. In January of the following year, Knowles sang James’ trademark song “At last” for President Barack Obama, and first lady Michelle Obama, at his inaugural ball.
In addition to acting and performing, Beyonce also ran the House of Dereon clothing line with her mother. In 2010, she launched Heat, her own fragrance, and she has been a spokesperson for many other brands, including L’Oreal, Tommy Hilfiger, and a model for her own fragrance, Heat.
More success followed her career despite an event with a concert for Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi that put her in the spotlight for bad light. This led her to stop having her father as her manager.
In January 2013, she was the subject of negative headlines due to her performance at President Obama’s second inauguration in Washington, D.C. She was accused of pre-recording “The Star-Spangled Banner” while lip-syncing to her own song during the outdoor ceremony.
She didn’t address the controversy publicly in spite of extensive media coverage.
However, she did more than redeem herself at the Super Bowl on February 3, 2013. She performed parts of her show to the crowd while on the stage during the halftime show.
Rowland Williams, her former Destiny’s Child member, was also there.
Her studio albums broke many records with awards, including Grammys and the success of a second Super Bowl and her 2016 album, “Lemonade.”
Since then, Beyonce has announced her pregnancies publicly and been involved in many projects, including the continuous release of music and her success in the industry.
This also includes her roles in directing films and producing some others.
Numbers: How Much Is Beyonce Worth?
It isn’t a bad choice to think she is a millionaire with such a successful music career. But is she really?
When we mentioned the “Queen B” part in the first part (read carefully), we actually meant it in terms of billions.
This can be a bit confusing since Beyonce’s net worth is actually set at $500 million as of 2021, so that means she isn’t really a millionaire, but this is only by herself.
But before we jump to that part, there are a few things you need to know to understand that all this money doesn’t come from her voice and dancing only.
Beyonce is a fashion designer and investor, as well as an actor and singer. As we briefly mentioned before, she and her mother, Tina Knowles, launched “House of Dereon,” a line of women’s fashion that produces accessories, footwear, lingerie, shoes, sportswear, and other products.
In addition to this business venture, the singer has many sponsors and deals with brands.
Beyonce and Topshop teamed up in 2014 to create an activewear line called “Ivy Park.”
Topshop was eventually purchased by Beyonce out of their 50% share, and she now controls 100% of the brand. To further develop Ivy Park, Beyonce signed a deal with Adidas in 2019. Shares of Adidas rose 1.3% on the announcement of the partnership.
Beyonce has been featured in numerous high-profile commercials for Pepsi, including a number of highly publicized ones.
She has also endorsed American Express, Nintendo DS, and L’Oreal. Over several years, her endorsement deal with Pepsi in 2012 was one of the highest-paid so far, which was worth $50 Million.
She also co-developed a line of perfumes with Tommy Hilfiger, “True Star,” & “True Star Gold,” and promoted Emporio Armani’s Diamonds fragrance.
In 2010, she launched her first solo fragrance brand. Since then, six other fragrance brands have been created. This brand is considered the most popular by a celebrity and has brought a big impact to her net worth, positively of course.
Besides all the big deals in fashion brands, sponsors, and the previous mentions, Beyonce has been quite smart in her payments.
Beyonce signed a $60 million deal with Netflix in 2018 to offer three pieces of content. One of them is the popular “Homecoming” from 2019 that is based on her 2018 Coachella performance.
But what did we mean by being smart when getting paid?
Well, Uber’s CEO Travis Kalanick (at the time) hired Beyonce to perform a private concert at his company’s employees in 2015.
The gig paid her $6 million. However, instead of money, she asked for Uber shares.
This means that she was able to receive $6 million worth of Restricted Stock Units. This stock continues to grow as the company is worth over $66 billion today, but this is just in the case of not selling them, which we doubt she did.
With all this information clear, most of her income continues to come from her tours and albums sales. However, the details of how much she has earned from them aren’t specific.
Though, her last tour earned over $50 million in revenue or profit.
Also, remember that this is her actual net worth as of today, but she has earned much more over the years and rather invested in real estate and other expenses. In total, she has earned about $851 million since 2004.
Finally, what did we mean by being a billionaire? Her net worth is set at $500 million, but since she is married to Jay-Z, their combined net worth is considered one, and with his husband, this increases to about $1.9 billion.
Yes, he got a lot of money, but it isn’t really like she needs it either.
Philanthropist: Caring About Others
Beyonce is known for more than her voice and dance moves, and no, it isn’t because of the millions.
Instead, she has been a great contributor to several charities around the world, especially those dedicated to children and diseases’ research.
Several anonymous donations have been made, while others have been public.
She has donated over $2 million to children’s charities over the last three years and contributed to other foundations like Survivors Foundation that helps victims of Hurricane Katrina in Texas.
She contributed $250,000 at the time and supported directly with donations of food and raw materials for any constructions.
She is also known for being connected to gun control, female empowerment, and world hunger. Many of her contributions and acts go for the last two the most.
Childhood obesity is another specific focus of the artist to which she has donated over $1 million.
Her foundation, BeyGOOD, focuses on helping those in need without any special contemplations. In fact, it has been one of the main organizations to provide relief due to COVID-19.
In 2020, she donated over $500,000 through the foundation to those who could lose their home during the pandemic.
The foundation is also associated with other brands which help to finance the project, like Adidas and Bread of Life.
