Movie Earnings: Deadpool 2 (2018)

Deadlier Than the First One?

It wasn’t too long ago until we decided to cover the first one, and when it was time to go over another movie review, we thought: Why not just to the sequel?

Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t being lazy about choosing other films because we are hard dying fans for writing about them, but we found it a good option to go over the second one to know whether it was a big success or even better than the first one.

But what can you expect from it before we get into the business? Well, more comedy, R-rated scenes, and the usual gore. You know, just regular Deadpool things.

The real question here is: Was it actually good to the point of laughing ourselves to tears just like the first one? Questionable.

We need to cover many details, and although we won’t be including spoilers, the facts and information we will include here (as usual) will give you the answer you’re dying to know.

Plot & Cast: As Interesting as Always?

It isn’t a secret for absolutely anyone that sequels tend to be a bit disappointing, and only very few franchises come up with great ideas one after another.

Sometimes, sequels end up being better than the previous film and if you don’t think so, allow us to debate that by mentioning the “Dark Knight Trilogy” and how good each movie was.

But going back to the sequel and franchise we’re covering today, Deadpool 2 plot follows a very similar one as the last, but you might be impressed by the additional approach it has.

Deadpool 2 (2018) #3 - didyousaymoney.com

Back with our favorite guy in a red suit and with accelerated healing powers, Wade Wilson fails to kill one of his targets after he has been working as Deadpool’s mercenary for two years, just during his anniversary with the love of his life, Vannesa.

The target he missed decided to track Wade, and after the happy couple decided to start a family, the criminal kills Vanessa that same night.

Wilson kills the target in vengeance as natural, and we are thrown to six weeks later.

Wade continuously attempts suicide by setting himself on fire six times and following other practices. However, the pieces of his body are still alive and can be reassembled by Colossus. While dead for a few minutes, Wade continues to see Vanessa in what is considered the afterlife.

Not knowing what to do, Deadpool embarks on a journey for redemption after discovering a piece left behind by his lover. For this task, he looks for the X-Men by visiting the mansion and reluctantly agrees that he will join them to avoid a returned evil Deadpool to the stage.

He, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead react to a standoff with authorities where they get to know an unstable mutant but little did they know that this boy would bring so many troubles…

All right, we know that the first part was kind of a spoiler, but it isn’t actually the main plot of the film, so we thought, “why not add it?”

You will learn that Deadpool 2 comes with much more story than the simple plot summary above. Thus, don’t get mad with us.

Now, for this sequel, did the cast remain the same, and were some big names added? You bet!

With Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool at the head and Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, the rest of the team included:

  • Josh Brolin as Cable.
  • Julian Dennison as Russell Collins/Firefist.
  • Zazie Beetz as Domino.
  • T.J. Miller as Weasel.
  • Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
  • Jack Kesy as Black Tom Cassidy.

Previous members like Stefan Kapičić and Andre Tricoteux also took part in the sequel.

Behind Cameras: Production & Crew

With the plot done and the cast members (at least the main ones) mentioned, we are left with nothing more but the team that handles the production on their shoulders.

Directed by David Leitch, the movie had Ryan Reynolds as part of its writers again along with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Meanwhile, producers Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner worked next to Ryan Reynolds (yes, he has a lot of participation in the process of making the film).

Jonathan Sela handled the cinematography, and it was edited by Dirk Westervelt, Craig Alpert, and Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir.

And the music was again handled by Tyler Bates.

With the first film’s success, the same production companies were involved, while the distribution didn’t change as well while having 20th Century Fox behind it. As for the rest:

  • Marvel Entertainment.
  • Kinberg Genre.
  • Maximum Effort.
  • The Donners’ Company.
  • TSG Entertainment.

Deadpool 2 (2018) #5 - didyousaymoney.com

Although the first part was released in 2016, the discussions for a sequel started even before its premiere.

In fact, Simon Kinberg thought about having another movie in 2015, and the development started just after the release of the first film.

However, it wasn’t until June 2016 when the writing for the film started, and it was completed by January 2017, and the filming began by June of the same year.

It didn’t take too long to film Deadpool 2, but it took more time than the previous one.

That being said, the release date was set by the end of 2017, and finally, on May 18, 2018, it was premiered in the United States.

Numbers & Reception: How Popular Was Deadpool 2?

The first “Deadpool” made history by having a low budget set at $58 million and grossing over $750 million.

However, this budget was increased for the second part due to the visual effects and equipment used during filming.

The production budget was set at $110 million, and the grossing did not disappoint either.

In the United States and Canada, Deadpool 2 was well-received and grossed $324.6 million, while the other territories contributed $460.5 million to the total of $785 million.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the net profit, when considering all the expenses and billing details, was established at $235.4 million.

But what happened with the reception of the movie in terms of critics?

Fortunately, Reynolds and the rest of the team involved hit the jackpot with it once more.

In Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 84%, and for IMBd, it is set at 7.7 stars out of 10.

The audience truly loved the film despite the common decline of the sequels for most of the franchises, especially considering that Deadpool is R-rated in all countries.

Although the first one remains as the favorite, fans and occasional viewers had a great time and eld the movie to have positive reviews.

Finally, what can we tell you about the numbers and salaries?

Unfortunately, we are unable to give you all the details about salaries.

While Ryan Reynolds earned over $2 million for the first film, the second one came with many changes considering how his value increased after the release in 2016.

What we know about his paycheck is that he received over $10 million for his salary alone but was also allowed to get revenues from the success of the film as the only eligible actor in it for his role in other parts of the filming process.

Meanwhile, some actors and actresses of the main cast earned between $500,000 to $5 million, and a few extras you will be surprised to see got a paycheck consisting of a single cup of coffee. Fun!
