This trading system is named after the Swahili language of people living near and around the Indian Ocean.
The traders would provide these items to smaller inland communities due to them crossing borders for trade purposes, or they would give them to coastal cities to be used as currency.
Before the British, the Portuguese came, and their presence lasted from 1498 until 1730 for conquering the Swahili coast the early years.
Kenya claimed independence in 1957 when the first elections were held (after the constitution was passed).
In 1964, Jomo Kenyatta was elected, and he became the first president of Kenya. He held that office until he died in 1978 when Vice President Daniel Moi took over.
From here, we still have a long way to go with politics, and, in all honesty, we doubt you will focus on them after telling you the essentials.

You’re probably wondering what is so beautiful and exciting about the country.
Well, more than its people, culture, and food, the abundance of national reserves and wildlife make it a dream for many.

Unlike what some believe, it isn’t hard to visit and go on a safari despite certain aspects you need to consider before visiting:
- Protests are expected in certain places due to politics.
- Malaria is common in the country.

- Go to the East African Indian Ocean to relax and have a different yet familiar experience.
- Climbing is still an option, especially in Mount Kenya.
- Try river rafting the Tana River! You will love it.
- Explore the city and nearby areas! You are visiting to have fun and enjoy, not to stay in bed.

Depending on the safari you choose, you might get more activities included, so you should go over the options available to pick the best possible one.
