TV Show Salaries & Earnings: Supernatural

Too Boring or Good to Miss?

Supernatural has been popular since it first aired in 2005, and although it has already finished, it was a great ride for everyone who watched it. With the final season premiering in 2019, the next year was followed with the ending and what takes us to this article.

It’s been over a year since it concluded, and although new series have been released not only on TV but also streaming platforms, Supernatural remains as one of the tops after running for 15 seasons total.

One of the main reasons for its popularity is how it embarks the common yet favorite genres like action, drama, and horror, but with a different touch in the characters and how the story is built over the course of the seasons. Instead of getting bored, you just want more the more you watch.

With this in mind, why would the series end? Because everything needs to come to an end at some point.

However, to honor the show, we decided to go back to how things were before our supernatural characters left us, and with them, a void was created. If you haven’t watched it, we bet you will want to do it after this article.

Super Plot Summary: What Is the Series About?

Following what the title of the series suggests, the show maintains a dark fantasy style that was the star of its popularity.

Mystery, adventure, and drama can be added to some of the genres, and we believe it won’t disappoint if you like them.

After Mary’s murder, John Winchester taught his sons Sam and Dean to hunt down and kill any supernatural creatures that were similar or the same as the one who killed his wife when they were just kids.

Twenty-two years later, the brothers embarked on a quest to find their father after his recent disappearance while they still needed to fight evil creatures along their journey.

When they finally found him, he revealed that he knew the demon that killed their mother and had a way of tracking it down to kill it finally.

During these events, one of the brothers, Sam, also develops terrifying abilities like seeing people die before it happens. These visions seem to be connected to the demon who murdered Sam’s mother and its mysterious plans, which appear to all be about him.

The brothers decide to end their father’s crusade when he dies making a deal with the demon. However, before saying their goodbyes, John’s last words to Dean reveal disturbing details about Sam’s role in the demons’ apocalyptic plan.

Most of the creatures you would expect from the series will go around vampires, general monsters, and what you would usually find in other series.

What you wouldn’t expect is to have angels, reapers, and the Death itself being involved in the journey of the two brothers.

Incredible Cast & Production: Behind the Scenes

Although many of the actors and actresses in the TV show made their debut in it, they have turned into great faces in the industry and even landed some reason roles in the new series.

But focusing on Supernatural, you might be familiar with some of the names:

  • Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester.
  • Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester.
  • Jim Beaver as Bobby Singer.
  • Misha Collins as Castiel.
  • Mark Sheppard as Crowley.
  • Alexander Calvert as Jack.
  • Samantha Smit as Mary Winchester.

Other secondary members and recurring cast involve Mark Pellegrino and Ruth Connell. However, most of the cast of the show didn’t really repeat their roles as much as the two main faces.

With 327 episodes in their backs, the brothers are way ahead in episodes with the next character with 148 only.

Now, what about the people involved in the series but behind cameras?

To make the series come to life, Eric Kripke, the creator, did his best to bring the right cast but also crew.

With composers Jay Gruska and Christopher Lennertz, the music was more than done.

For the executive producers, Kripke took one of the roles. At the same time, a long list of people have also included: Robert Singer, McG, David Nutter, Kim Manners, John Shiban, Phil Sgriccia, Sera Gamble, Ben Edlund, Jeremy Carver, Jim Michaels, and we still can include other six.

For production, Kripke Enterprises, Wonderland Sound and Vision, and Warner Bros. Television took part. However, Wonderland helped from 2005 to 2013 only.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. was also the distributor with The WB and The CW as the original networks.

Impact & Reception

It is usually hard to know how good a series will do before its release, even more than a movie due to the amount of effort placed into usually the entire season.

Fortunately, Supernatural met its viewers’ expectations.

With over 5 million viewers for its first season, the next didn’t come low despite the decrease in numbers.

Review pages rated it at 87% on average during the first season, including this being the exact score in Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Metacritic gave it quite a harsh review with 59 out of 100.

This is why the first part of the series kind of received mixed reviews, and unlike other series (*cough* “Game of Thrones” *cough*), the critics started to be more favorable the longer it ran.

Many of the following seasons, like the second, fifth, sixth, and seventh season scored 100% in Rotten Tomatoes, and the rest didn’t fall short except for season eight as considered the worst of the series and a critical set with 67%.

However, it is fair to say the series grew in people’s hearts, and the finale season also received 100%, which is quite rare for most TV shows and their endings.

IMDb’s score is set at 8,4/10, and it is one of people’s favorite on the platform during reviews and just some opinions.

Ratings & Earnings: Cast and Money Making

It isn’t weird for a show not to disclose its information about earnings since it depends a lot on the platform streaming it or the original network. It isn’t any different for Supernatural.

Ratings are what usually tell you how popular a series was, and going back to the 5 million we mentioned earlier in viewers, by the end of the series, it maintained 1.8 million. However, the viewership rank was kind of maintained during all its years airing.

We would love to be able to share more info, but we will owe you the details kind of for the rest of our lives.

Salaries aren’t easy to find, and if we consider they change based on the show’s season and popularity, keeping track would be tough.

However, the formula is simple: The more it runs, the more actors get paid. This means people during the first episodes don’t really make that much money.

In the beginning, the actors playing brothers were paid about $5k per episode, or even less, based on the sources we have consulted.

But by the end of it, each was paid over $175,000 per episode, which translates to over $2 million considering most of the seasons had about 20 episodes.

The rest of the members, we actually don’t know this info since it is hard enough to find the actors’ and actresses’ details. However, they wouldn’t be higher than the previous number; ever.
